Sierra del Rio

Snuggled just six miles from the base of Turtleback Mountain and sprawling throughout the wide open landscapes of the high desert, Sierra Del Rio honors the majestic spirit of the wild southwest. Located in Elephant Butte, NM within the 1,000 plus acres of Turtleback Mountain Resort, Sierra Del Rio Golf Course, is an 18-hole championship daily fee facility with full amenity clubhouse.
In New Mexico we appreciate our natural resources-both for their beauty and for the life they give. For this reason, we have designed a course that is unique not only in its play design but also in it limited impact on our environment. At Sierra Del Rio, we use environmentally safe organic products throughout the property to protect our water shed and abundant wildlife.
Our beautiful southern New Mexico climate combined with our draught tolerant grasses allows the course to maintain its green coloring throughout the year. The organically grown greens are covered with "bent" grass that offers some of the smoothest putting surfaces found in this part of the country.
At Sierra Del Rio, we believe that playing golf should be a beautiful experience-one that allows you to immerse yourself in a game among a unique design of greens, fairways, and teeing grounds but also one where you will bask in the natural and abundant landscapes that quietly and majestically surround your play. Our design team has created a premier course with 18 memorable holes while preserving the natural environment that has existed here for ages. At Sierra Del Rio, not only will you savor each minute of play, you will find peace in the awesome vistas as you lose yourself in our high southwestern desert oasis.

The Links at Sierra Blanca
In 1990, owners R. D. Hubbard and Ed Allred of All-Hub Investments undertook the task of converting the old Sierra Blanca Regional Airport (pictured above) into The Links at Sierra Blanca. With Senior PGA Tour Player Jim Colbert and architect Jeff Bauer at his side they tore up the tarmac and removed the old hangars and buildings. Using great land management as they built the signature high rolling mounds throughout the golf course there was not any dirt brought onto or off of the property.
On March 1, 1991 the Links at Sierra Blanca was open for business and is continually rated as one of the top golf courses in the State of New Mexico.
The 120 acres are now the home to The Links at Sierra Blanca, The Lodge at Sierra Blanca, the Ruidoso Convention Center, and a paved 2.9 mile public walking path that traverses along the outside of the golf course.
The Links at Sierra Blanca is a classic Scottish style course that has consistently been ranked as one of the Best Courses in New Mexico by Golf Digest Magazine. Known for our outstanding staff, you'll discover why we think the Links should be ranked Ruidoso, New Mexico's #1 golf course for friendliness.

The Lodge Golf Course
Cloudcroft's Lodge golf course is unique. It is the highest elevation golf course in America. It only has 9 holes, but in the Scottish tradition, they are double flagged and holed, and you play the course backwards after you're finished with the first 9 to produce a very challenging 18 holes.
Being built on a mountain, the vertical drop is extreme, so the course is evidently pretty tough. This is a quote from golfer Jeff Hayden: "This course provides a golfing experience that every avid golfer should have before they die. There are a lot of courses that have better amenities, better playing surfaces, and more holes, but there are very, very few courses that make you feel so at peace and so relaxed that you really don't care what your score is. This course WILL challenge you as no other course ever has. The vertical drop on the first hole (reachable in 1 shot) must be around 120'. The opposite is true on the 9th. WOW. You can BLAST drives like Tiger in the ultra thin air at 9,200' in elevation. Watch out for bears, seen sometimes trying to play a hole or two, (silly bear, golf is for kids). In early spring or late fall the greens may freeze rock hard so set your trip between May and September and you should have a great time."

Desert Lakes Golf Course
Desert Lakes is a quality public facility that is located at the base of the Sacramento Mountain range. Remodeled in 1996-97 by Williams & Gill the course features four sets of tees to cater to all levels of play. The front nine is a tree-lined, parkland-style layout that highlights large greens with subtle undulations. The back nine, "the desert nine", is cut out of the southern New Mexico desert. The large, subtle greens make for a unique coupling of contrast and consistency. The course also features numerous water hazards that come into play on eleven of the eighteen holes. This makes the course challenging yet interesting and fun to play for all levels of golfers. Alamogordo delights in year-round golf, with summer highs in the 90's and moderate winter temperatures.
The course is an ideal host for all golfing events, specializing in tournaments and outings, and features a full service golf shop with expert club repair, club fitting as well as a comprehensive instruction program directed by PGA Professional Grant Dalpes.

The area also offers some prime sight-seeing with the White Sands National Monument just 15 minutes to the west, and the Old West-style Oliver Lee State Park just 15 minutes to the south. Cloudcroft is just 30 minutes up the mountain and Ruidoso is only a 45 minute ascension into the cool pines. In Alamogordo, visit the Space Hall of Fame or the IMAX theater. In early fall, colorful balloons fill the sky as Alamogordo hosts the White Sands Balloon Festival.
