Leisure and Recreational Attractions
Outdoor activities can be enjoyed year-round. There are plenty of places to walk, run, hike, bike or play. The city itself contains more than 50 parks, three public swimming pools, one indoor pool, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, four lighted tennis court complexes, six recreation centers, and a skate park.
The City of Las Cruces offers a variety of Recreational programs, activities, and events for the public at the city's six recreation centers and aquatic activities at the pools. The City sponsors of youth and adult leagues in hockey, volleyball, baseball, softball, track and field, triathlons and duathlons, football, basketball, BMX track, boxing, and soccer among many others.
The National Recreation and Parks Association along with Sports Illustrated named Las Cruces as the New Mexico Sports Town of the Year in 2004. The football rivalry between local high schools is ranked as one of the best in the nation ,and annually draws 25,000 to 30,000 fans. The New Mexico State University (NMSU) Aggies compete in Division I of the NCAA and have a long tradition of well-respected teams with a solid record of post-season and tournament appearances. NMSU was proud to host the 2007 and 2008 NCAA Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championship Tournament. The men's team captured the tournament title and the women's team was tournament runner-up in 2007.
THE CITY OF LAS CRUCES PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT maintains parks, athletic fields, medians, and trails throughout the city, as well as, provides litter and weed control along public roadways. There are more than 87 park sites and public grounds totaling some 514 acres. City facilities, under the Parks Section, includes multiple athletic complexes containing softball, baseball and soccer fields, sand volleyball, horseshoe, and lighted tennis courts, a skate park and a BMX racetrack.
THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT offers a variety of programs, activities, and events for the public at the section's six recreation centers and indoor and outdoor pools. The Las Cruces Public Services Department's Recreation Section is also the primary sponsor of all youth and adult leagues in hockey, volleyball, baseball, softball, track and field, triathlons and duathlons, football, basketball, BMX track, boxing, and soccer, among others. The Recreation Section collaborates with groups and organizations to provide and carry out quality activities and events for the community. Located at Meerscheidt Recreation Facility, the recreation section is responsible all the services listed above as well as • Therapeutic Recreation Program • Aquatics Program • The Walk Dona Ana Program • Athletics • Summer Recreation Program • Tennis Program • Summer Food Service Program.

New Mexico Senior Olympics features over 90 events in 26 different sports in 130+ communities and 31 Local Game Sites across the state encouraging a healthy lifestyle in mature adults over 50. We provide this listing so that you can choose to visit parks that have the recreational activities you are interested in. Some parks have areas for baseball, soccer, and other sports, while others have recreational playgrounds so that kids can play on swings and slides.
When you return to the Sports and Recreation section of the website you will find national or state parks that offer may more facilities. There are facilities within a short distance from the city as well as others nearby. There is no recreational activity you can think of that is more than a couple of hours away from home. There are extensive hiking trails, camping facilities, mountain biking trails, water sports, skiing, as well as wildlife viewing, and fishing in the lake and stream waters.

New Mexico State University - Presley Askew Field Press box - Sound system - NCAA Regulation baseball & softball fields Presley Askew Field (baseball) is regulation size, and has a seating capacity of 1,000. The softball field is equipped with a batting cage and bullpens for both home and visiting teams. The softball field is NCAA regulation size.
Apodaca Ball field is home to one baseball and one softball field. The fields are lighted, and have a total seating capacity of 1,500. The field is used primarily for men's fast-pitch, along with local, state and regional high school baseball games. Branigan Softball field is lighted and has a seating capacity of 150. Maag Ball Park can seat 200 per field, along with having all fields lighted. Paz Park has four fields that are all lighted. All ball fields have restrooms and a concession stand.

Field of Dreams Project 145 acres for the development of a Sports Complex. The agreed upon Master Plan was to build a Stadium and Sports Complex to meet the growing needs of sport and recreational facilities in Doña Ana County. The project included and will include the construction of a 12,000-seat multi-purpose football stadium with an 8-land track, baseball and softball fields and seven youth soccer fields. In addition, 16 acres of land is available for a future sport-specific site or an elementary school. 
Las Cruces has over 25 sports facilities that can easily host football, baseball, softball, soccer, BMX, skating, basketball, golf, tennis, t-ball, track & field, swimming, and volleyball.
