PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Las Cruces Public Schools is the second-largest school district in New Mexico. There are 24 elementary schools, 7-middle schools, and 4-high schools. The district also has one vocational high school providing career technical education (CTE) to 8th - 12th grade students. Student enrollment is nearly 24,000 students. Las Cruces Public Schools is the third largest employer in Doña Ana County with more than 3,600 employees, which includes about 2,200 classroom teachers.

HIGHER EDUCATION
New Mexico State University (NMSU)

Founded in 1888, New Mexico State University is the state's land-grant institution providing many educational opportunities through its statewide presence. NMSU is a true reflection of the region's vibrant mix of ethnic and cultural communities. NMSU combines a personalized small college setting with the resources of a large university.
The total enrollment for the main campus and four branch campuses in the fall of 2007 was 28,821 with 16,726 students at the Las Cruces campus. The total faculty numbers 1,788, with more than 84 percent of the full-time faculty holding doctoral degrees. The faculty-to-student ratio is 1:19. Programs offered include 81 bachelor's degrees, 50 master's degrees, 20 doctoral degrees, and two specialists in education programs.
NMSU contributes immeasurable to the area's arts and recreational offerings with museum, art galleries, symphony and other musical ensembles, professional theater, national performers, PBS, NPR campus stations, a full 6-sport WAC athletics program, golf, tennis, and swimming facilities open to the public. NMSU is an integral part of our community's educational, cultural and economic fabric.

Doña Ana Community College

The essence of Dona Ana Community College is people.
Dona Ana Community College is a college within the New Mexico State University System. Many of the courses taken here can also be used to fulfill degree requirements at the University. Committed to providing quality educational opportunities, the Community College emphasizes student success, and the need for continued learning opportunities for all age groups. Doña Ana Community College (DACC) has been educating our community's for more than 3- decades. With a enrollment in excess of 7,000 students, DACC reaches out to all of our county residents.
The community college offers Vocational-technical education opportunities in more than 40 career programs. There is an extensive continuing education program in response to the needs of the community. They offer short courses, workshops and seminars of an enrichment or occupational nature.
DACC offers a Creative Media Institute for Film and Digital arts in response to New Mexico's growing film and electronic media industries. Courses in screen writing and acting for the camera are also being taught by Tony Award-Winning playwright and Oscar-nominated screenwriter, Mark Medoff.

ACADEMIC-PRESCHOOL, KINDERGARTEN, AND DAY CARE FACILITIES
Las Cruces has an extensive choice of private preschool and kindergarten facilities that provide early childhood education. This is obviously very important to many of our relocating families. In addition, there are many licensed day Day Care Facilities for younger children.
