If you think you have missed your opportunity to take advantage of this GIFT from the IRS, now you have a second chance to get thousands of dollars toward the purchase of a home.
The old Home Buyers Tax Credit Act has now been EXTENDED, EXPANDED, AND IMPROVED.
#1 For eligible* first time home buyers, the tax credit remains at $8,000,, but your eligibility has been extended from November, 2009 to any Purchase Contract signed prior to April 30,2010, and you do not have to close until June 30, 2010.
#2 Now the Tax Credit has been expanded to include current home owners who have lived in their primary residence for 5 consecutive years out of the last 8 years. Current Home Owners are now eligible for a maximum $6500 tax credit for the purchase of a new primary residence that can be either a move up or a downsized property. The improvement in the period between purchase (by April 30,2009) to closing date (June 30, 2009) applies here also.
#3 A further improvement in the Act is an increase in the income limits for eligibility. The upper limits have been raised substantially from $75,000 to $125,000 for single taxpayers, and from $150,000 to $225,000 for married taxpayers.
